The autumn fairs and festivals will bring together a number of Basque music bands and artists thanks to Basque Music, a platform promoted by Musika Bulegoa, the Etxepare Basque Institute and Euskadiko Soinuak(Department of Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government).
The aim of the Basque Music initiative is to help promote Basque music abroad by providing support for the sector (stands, publishing materials, promotion, organizing showcases, etc.). The initiative also promotes the direct participation of different Basque groups, each according to the predominant genre or style of festival or professional meeting.
There are four events of the calendar over the next two months: Mercat de la Música Viva de Vic, Monkey Week, Womex and Bime. The Mercat de la Música Viva de Vic will take place from 13 to 17 September. After presenting the 2017 edition of Euskal Herria Sona to industry professionals of Catalonia, the event will feature a concert at 13.30 by Ekiza, a singer from the Northern Basque Country.
In October, as part of Monkey Week (Seville, 9 to 14 October), Basque Music will present three bands that have already made a name for themselves in the Basque rock scene: Willis Drummond, Niña Coyote and Chico Tornado, and Tooth. The three groups will have a chance to present their live shows to a new audience. As a novelty, this year the bands will have a space to perform together.
Juan Mari Beltrán, one of the most relevant figures of Basque popular music, is part of the lineup for the offWomex showcase of artists (Womex, Poland, 25-29 October).
And at the end of this month, on October 26 as part of the BIME 2017 programme, Melenas and Los Brazos will perform in Bilborock hall. In addition, a session of speed meetings will be held at BIME pro, exclusively for Basque professionals to show their catalogue of artists to other local and international professionals.
