One of the main goals of the Etxepare Basque Institute is to promote the many Basque artistic disciplines among international audiences. Year after year, the Institute uses different tools to achieve this goal. The 2019 in numbers series allows us to draw attention to our work in different artistic disciplines. Today we turn the spotlight on other cultural initiatives to support Basque culture worldwide.
The Institute, in addition to the international promotion of literature and translation, performing arts, cinema and audiovisuals, music, and visual and plastic arts, supports other projects and activities by non-professionals active in promoting Basque culture. For this, the mobility grants are the most effective tools. These grants help cover the expenses of activities by artists and companies abroad and promote sustainable free mobility of Basque culture worldwide.
Through the "Grants to carry out activities to promote and disseminate Basque culture", 11 subsidies were distributed in 2019 for a total of 30,000 euros. Four of them were for companies related to traditional Basque dance and seven to music and choirs. The mobility grants made it possible for the companies to put on 44 shows across 11 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania.
