Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
Azkuna Zentroa in Bilbao presents the exhibition ´La línea recta no es la más corta’ (The straight line is not the shortest one) from February 15 to May 6. This exhibition is the result of the work carried out by Miriam Isasi (Vitoria-Gasteiz, 1981) and José Manuel Mesías (Havana, 1990) during their artist residency within the framework of the Amphitryon programme, with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute.

Part of Miriam Isasi’s residency was based in Cuba while José M. Mesías further developed the project in Bilbao through an exchange programme with Carlos Garaicoa’s studio in Havana.
Amphitryon, the artist residency programme backed by Azkuna Zentroa, brings together various initiatives aimed at supporting research, creation and production of the performing and exhibition arts. The purpose is to promote the production of artistic works and make them more accessible to the public.
The artist-in-residency is an exchange programme in collaboration with the ´Artista x Artista´ initiative carried out at the Carlos Garaicoa studio in Havana. Through this annual call, artists from the Basque Country and Cuba have the opportunity to work in a different country, establishing a dialogue around art. The residency culminates with an exhibition of their work at Azkuna Zentroa.
This year Miriam Isasi (Vitoria, 1981) and José Manual Mesías (Havana, 1990) enjoyed the residency. The result of this common experience is the exhibition entitled ´La lína recta no es la más corta’ (The straight line is not the shortest one).
