Fira del Llibre de València: Mariasun Landa and Fito Rodríguez

Basque literature will have a seat at the table at Fira del Llibre de Valencia, held from 27 April to 8 May in Valencia’s Viveros Garden. On 30 April, guest authors Mariasun Landa and Fito Rodríguez will be at the Valencia Book Fair in an event focusing on contemporary Basque literature at.

The 58th edition of the book fair will give special recognition to Basque literature as a result of an agreement signed by Fira del Llibre and the Etxepare Basque Institute, with support from EIE (association of writers in the Basque language), and the Durango Book  Fair. From now on, the Valencia Book Fair will dedicate a day each year to the Basque, Galician and Asturian languages.

This initiative is intended to draw attention to literature written in minority languages to showcase the diversity of Hispanic culture. The works will be available in their original language, in addition to translations into Spanish and Valencian.

On Sunday 30 April, the presentation of contemporary Basque literature will take place at 12:00pm in the Viveros Garden in Valencia, with the participation of Basque authors Mariasun Landa and Fito Rodríguez. Admission is free.

Both writers have had their works translated internationally and have built a long-standing career as authors. Landa is primarily known for her works in children´s literature, which have been translated into a wide range of languages including Spanish, Catalan, Galician, English, French, German, Greek, Arabic, Korean, and Albanian. Rodríguez´s work has also been translated into German, Catalan, Galician, English, Italian, Kurdish, Ladino, and Braille. He has won first prize and finalist positions in several literary and poetic creation competitions held in the Basque Country. The moderator will be Aritz Galarraga, author, Basque literature critic and teacher in Catalonia and the Basque Country. The event will also be attended by several Valencian agencies and Valencia Book Fair president, María Bravo.
