dFERIA 2015: working for the Basque productions to get further

dFERIA, the Donostia-San Sebastián Performing Arts Festival  just closed successfully its 21st edition. This year the fair has featured theatrical productions, dance and multidisciplinary works focused on the theme of identity. The festival has shown once more again very high quality creations and has been followed with great interest by the audience and the international programmers gathered in Donostia.

In an effort to support the external dissemination of the Basque works, the Etxepare Basque Institute made its contribution in this edition of dFERIA: four Basque productions -Gau arabiarra - La noche árabe  (Hika Teatroa), Happyend (Vaivén Producciones), Barbecho (Natxo Montero ) and Bareadi magikoa -La calma mágica (CDN / Tanttaka Teatroa) were shown with subtitles in English and French. In addition to allowing international programmers see the works in its original language, thesubtitles also give the opportunity to program those productions abraod I their original language. As a matter of fact, on the initiative of the Etxepare Institute, the Madrid CDN hosted the world premiere of the work in Basque Barealdi Magikoa  last year.

This year, the fair promoted three dissemination programs: Eszena T, which strengthens the links between companies on either side of the French border; Ventana  Iberoamericana, aimed at encouraging distribution, circulation and promotion of Latin American shows among professional participants and the presence of Basque companies in Latin American festivals; and dFERIA Dantzan, which promotes dance as a specific and relevant discipline. During the four days of the program, 8 Donostia-San Sebastián stages have hosted 29 theater and dance 28 companies, 45% of them Basque.
