The European Film Market, one of the leading meeting places of the international film and media industries, will take place from February 16th to 22nd, coinciding with Berlinale, the Berlin International Film Festival. Basque. Audiovisual. will be there once again with the most outstanding productions in the Basque film industry.

This year’s festival will be back with a full face-to-face program in events such as the European Film Market and the Berlinale Talents.

As in previous editions, Basque. Audiovisual. will have a stand at the film market linked to the ‘Cinema from Spain’ portal. Information will be made available on regional tax incentives, funding, and various tools and associations at the service of the international film industry.

For the 73rd annual Berlinale, Basque. Audiovisual. has released a new catalogue that brings together Basque projects that are currently underway and the Kimuak 2022 short film selection. The catalogue will be made available to programmers, international sales agents, audiovisual platforms and other essential film industry stakeholders.

‘20,000 Species of Bees’ and ‘Samsara’ to premiere at Berlinale

Esti Urresola´s debut feature film ‘20.000 especies de abejas’ (‘20,000 Species of Bees’) has been selected to compete in the Official Selection of the Berlin International Film Festival, one of the most important international film festivals in the world. The screening will take place on Wednesday, February 22nd.

Berlinale is undoubtedly one of the best places for the world premiere of the film by the director from Alava. After the success of her last short film, which was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Fiction Short Film and received the Le Rails d´or Award from the Critics´ Week, Urresola will land at the Berlinale with her debut feature film. Produced by Sirimiri Films, Gariza Films and Inicia Films with collaboration from EiTB, ICAA, Movistar Plus and RTVE, ‘20,000 Species of Bees’ tells the story of an eight-year-old who struggles with the fact that people keep addressing her in confusing ways. During a summer at her grand aunt’s among the beehives, her life and her mother´s will change forever.

The Encounter Section, which aims to promote aesthetically and structurally daring works by independent and innovative filmmakers, has selected the film ´Samsara´ for this edition. The feature film is directed by Lois Patiño and produced by Señor y Señora. In this film, the filmmaker from Vigo reflects on death from the perspective of Buddhist religiosity.
