With the aim of promoting the knowledge and prestige of Basque language and culture in the international context, the Etxepare Basque Institute keeps expanding its network of readerships of Basque Language and Culture in universities all over the world.

Through this program, our language and culture are taught at several international universities, thanks to different cooperation agreements signed between the Institute and the universities that allow joint financing. During the course 2014-2015 the network includes 27 readers-teachers-, who work at 34 universities in 17 countries.

For the academic course 2015-2016 the Institute has created three new readerships at prestigious universities trough the world: The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA); Universidad de La Habana (Cuba); and Université Sorbonne IV, Paris (France). On the following academic year,  2016-2017, two more Universities will join our readership network:  The University of Edinburgh (UK) and The UCLA University of California Los Angeles (USA).

Since the program was created, the readership network of the Etxepare Institute has evolved favorably. On one hand, the resources have been optimized: some readers teach in more than one University and 8 agreements have been canceled. On the other hand, during the last four years 24 new agreements have been signed with new Universities considering their prestige and their curricular significance. In total, the amount of students has been doubled. Moreover, the readers organize also academic-cultural events (more than 250 since 2011) where the students from all over the world have the opportunity to live our language and culture on first-hand.

In order to strengthen the training of current and future readers, since 2011 the Institute, in collaboration with the Summer Courses of the EHU-UPV, organizes every summer the "Excellence in Basque Studies" course. This year´s edition will take place on July 8-10 and will honour the writer Mariasun Landa- the deadline for registration is open-. Also, since 2014 the Institute offers in autumm a training course for Basque language teachers in foreign universities and high schools, in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country (EHU-UPV).
