Basque dancer Igor Yebra has accepted the appointment of artistic director of Sodre, the National Ballet of Uruguay, and will start work at the end of January.
The relationship between Igor Yebra and Sodre started in 2012, when the dancer from Bilbao was invited to take the leading role in La viuda alegre (The Merry Widow). Following a recommendation by Julio Bocca, artistic director of the National Ballet (2010-2017), in September Igor Yebra was invited to present his project. He will now continue the great Argentine dancer’s eight-year legacy as head of the National Ballet of Uruguay. As confirmed by Uruguayan Minister of Education and Culture, María Julia Muñoz, on September 15, the Sodre Board of Directors decided to offer the artistic direction to the Basque artist.
Igor Yebra will begin his job as artistic director for the National Ballet of Uruguay on January 28, 2018. "I am excited and feel great sense of responsibility in continuing the great work done by Julio Bocca in these last eight seasons,” he said.
