New autumn activities within Aquitaine.eus
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
The Aquitaine.eus project is already a year and a half old. The initiative promotes cross-border cultural cooperation between the Basque Country and Aquitaine. The works of Basque artists are spotlighted in different cultural events in Aquitaine and we already know what’s on for this autumn.
On November 8 and 9, the musicians Juan Mari Beltran and Mixel Etxekopar will give traditional Basque music workshops in schools in Bordeaux.
Both musicians will also take part in the show Zuhainpeko Soinuak (loosely translated as Under the Tree of Sounds), directed by Mireia Gabilondo, to be performed at the Le Rocher de Palmercultural center in Bordeaux on November 9. Zuhainpeko Soinuak features music from the French Basque province of Soule, or Zuberoa in Basque, which highlights oral transmission. Jean Mixel Bedaxagar, the greatest exponent of music from Zuberoa, will share the stage with one of the leading figures of Basque popular music, Juan Mari Beltran. Joined by Mixel Etxekopar, Sacha Standen, Mathieu Mendizabal, Pierre Vissler and Ander Barrenetxea, the musicians will create new melodies based on tradition.
The show will follow the opening of a photography exhibition by Ttika Rekalt, photographer and author of pastorals (typical theatre plays from Zuberoa), on display from November 3 to 28: Zeihar Soak. The opening will be attended by representatives of EKE (Basque Cultural Institute) and the Etxepare Basque Institute. Both institutions are the driving force behind the Aquitaine.eus programme, together with the Nouvelle Aquitaine-Euskadi-Navarre Euroregion.
Finally, from December 21 to January 31, SOKA, an exhibition of traditional Basque dance, will be on display in the media library in Bordeaux’s Mériadeck quarter.
