Wiersze w mieście, Warsaw’s ‘poetry in the city’ festival, is a series of events presenting international contemporary poetry in Warsaw´s public space. This year marks the festival’s seventh edition, running from 20 April to 21 May.
Invited Basque poet Rikardo Arregi will present his work ‘Zain’ in both Polish and Basque in the streets of Warsaw and at various festival events. The project is sponsored by the Etxepare Basque Institute.
This year´s festival revolves around the theme of ´Break´, aiming to envision a reality where poetry takes the place of commercial interruptions, reflecting on possible changes in our relationships with the world and with each other.
The works of several international poets will be exhibited in public spaces in Warsaw, on the festival website and at the headquarters of the Romanian Cultural Institute. Visitors to the festival website can also listen to poetry in its original language and in Polish.
EUNIC
Thanks to the Etxepare Basque Institute’s participation in the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), Basque poetry is represented at the event in Warsaw.
EUNIC is the European network of organisations with a network of 137 clusters in more than 100 countries. EUNIC acts as a platform to promote European values, share knowledge, promote dialogue among local partners and engage in cultural relations projects.
As the purpose of EUNIC is to promote cultural cooperation between European countries and to promote multilateral cultural projects and initiatives, the integration of the Etxepare Basque Institute allows the Basque Country to work directly with the rest of the EU Member States and to open avenues of collaboration for new Basque stakeholders and creators.
