For many years Okariz has been known internationally as a performance artist focusing on gender and language issues. Her work has often been characterized by the production of actions that question the regulations governing language and the production of the signs that define us as subjects. Her work has achieved wide recognition after live performances at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Reina Sofía National Museum of Art in Madrid, among others, as well as in the streets of New York, a city she has called home for many years.

The solo exhibition at the Kunsthaus Baselland - the first exhibition of her work in Switzerland - includes Okariz’s multifaceted creative work, including live performances and larger-scale sound art projects. The exhibition will also travel to CA2M - Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo - in Madrid, and Tabakalera, the International Center for Contemporary Culture in San Sebastián.
