This seventh edition, organized by the Etxeapre Basque Institute in collaboration with the University of the Basque Country will be held on July 10 and 11 in San Sebastian’s Miramar Palace. The main purpose of Excellence in Basque Studies is to prepare people interested in teaching Basque language abroad. The course is also geared to future readers from the Etxepare international network, covering themes related to Basque culture in general.
Professionals from different fields will take part in this course, led by Mari Jose Olaziregi, expert in literature. Enrolment is open to everyone. On July 10, the course will feature talks by Jone Miren Hernandez Garcia (University of the Basque Country), Arantxa Urretabizkaia Bejarano (writer), Miren Llona Gonzalez (University of the Basque Country), Diana Palenzuela Rodrigo (University of Chicago) and Asier Amezaga Etxebarria (Brno University). The following day, the invited experts will be Mari Jose Olaziregi Alustiza (University of the Basque Country), María Pilar Rodríguez Perez (University of Deusto) and Maya Amrane Chami. The course will end with a round table with Barbara Goenaga Bilbao (actress), Naroa Agirre Kamio (athlete) and Miren Azkarate Villar (San Sebastian City Hall).
The 2017 Summer Courses include a total of 15 different cycles, distributed in 137 courses, workshops and professional working days. There are 20 congresses, 5 open activities and 20 online courses held throughout the year. 24 courses will be taught in Basque, 20 in English and 2 in French (generally scientific congresses).
