This year marks the 12th edition of the international poetry festival Transpoesie. Nineteen poets will take part in this year’s festivalin Brussels from September 26-28. Among the participating poets is Navarra-born poet Beatriz Chivite.

The festival is held every year around the European Day of Languages and Linguistic Diversity, celebrated every September 26th since 2011. The organisers aim to promote multilingualism, including poetry of all styles and across the generations, and to encourage inclusion of the most European languages possible. The idea is to raise awareness, promote linguistic diversity and encourage exchange between writers, publishers and cultural organisations.

Beatriz Chivite will take part on September 27th as part of a round table discussion entitled ´European Year of Youth: Poetry as a literary refuge for young artists´. The panellists will be Ana Svetel (Slovenia), Ieva Toleikyte (Lithuania), Grug Muse (Wales), Dawn Watson (Northern Ireland) and Iona Lee (Scotland). The panel will be moderated by Nicky Aerts. Anyone interested in joining in should register by clicking on the following link: https://forms.gle/WBytn5RPxC3rheYU8. The event will be held at the office of the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels.

Transpoesie is organised by EUNIC Brussels, the local network of National Institutes of Culture of the European Union. Events take place at different venues in Brussels and can also be followed online. The poets will share their work in their original languages, with translations into French and Dutch. This year’s festival will include the following languages: Basque, Dutch, English, Faroese, French, Frisian, Georgian, German, Hungarian, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovenian, Spanish, and Welsh.
