Bime City and Womex, upcoming destinations for Basque Music

The bands Nerabe, Meridian and Kalakan will be the ambassadors for the Basque Music initiative at two of the most important events on the world music scene: Bizkaia International Music Experience (BIME) in Bilbao and Womex in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Basque Music showcases artists from Euskal Herria at the two events and this year these three bands have been selected as the sponsored artists.

The bands Nerabe, Meridian and Kalakan will be the ambassadors for the Basque Music initiative at two of the most important events on the world music scene: Bizkaia International Music Experience (BIME) in Bilbao and Womex in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Basque Music showcases artists from Euskal Herria at the two events and this year these three bands have been selected as the sponsored artists.

Last year, BIME launched BIME City, an initiative reserved for up-and-coming artists. This is where Nerabe and Meridian will present their music on Thursday, 25 October at Bilborock. The bands selected In 2017 were Melenas and Los Brazos.

In BIME Pro, the festival’s professional section, Basque Music will sponsor a speedmeeting session exclusively for Basque professionals on Thursday 25 October. The purpose of the meeting is to present the Basque musical offer to companies and as well as Spanish and international agents attending BIME to raise the international profile of our musicians and companies.

On Friday 26th, Kalakan will be at the World Music Expo (Womex), considered the world’s largest meeting of music professionals. The trio from Iparralde will give a concert as part of offWomex (Sala Gabriel Rodó) at 9:00pm. Kalakan follows in the footsteps of Juan Mari Beltran, who featured in the 2017 showcase. As in previous editions, Basque Music will have its own stand at Womex for Basque professionals attending the fair to show their work to other music industry professionals.
