Bitamine Faktoria has selected Estíbaliz Sadaba and her project ‘acciones B)))’ to take part in the 2023 EAS/EZE programme aimed at shining an international spotlight on contemporary Basque art. During her residency she will reflect on how for years women have been relegated to the domestic sphere. The artist was chosen by a jury made up of Bitamine Faktoria, Miriam Isasi and Diana Wechsler.

The initiative supports creators and encourages the global movement of artists with the goal of fostering Basque creative research and output. The chosen artist will work on her project in a Basque setting before exhibiting it in the city of Buenos Aires.

Estíbaliz Sabada (Bilbao, 1963) is an artist and holds a PhD in Art and Research from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She has been awarded several grants from ´Accademia di Spagna’ in Rome (2018 and 2016); Fundación BBVA; Beca Art i Natura, Farrera (La Panera, LLeida); La Cité International des Arts, Paris; Fundación Arte y Derecho; Museo Artium and Fundación Bilbaoarte, among others.

In addition to exhibitions, she has also led workshops on artistic practices, activism, feminism, and queer theory, and has served as editor for various publications. She has also given lectures at several museums, art centres and universities in Spain.

With the aim of developing and implementing a research and artistic production project, the call for projects of the EAS-EZE programme considers proposals in disciplines such as visual arts, audiovisual arts, performance, urban intervention, design and sound art.

The work will be carried out from November 2022 to August 2023. The 15 to 30 day residency in Buenos Aires will take place between August and October 2023, coinciding with the BienalSur programme.
