Universität Konstanz: Euskara and promoting culture internationally
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
To mark the tenth anniversary of the Basque and Catalan language assistant programme at Germany’s Universität Konstanz, both departments have organised a round-table discussion to talk about the culture of non-hegemonic languages. The event will take place on 28 April at 7pm in Room A703. Garbiñe Iztueta, Director for the Promotion and Dissemination of the Basque Language at the Etxepare Basque Institute will take part in the session. Registration is not required.
Iztueta will talk about the strategic agenda for the Basque language, namely the international promotion of Basque culture and language. The other speakers will discuss the causes and consequences of the demands for independence in the Basque Country and Catalonia, as well as the associated political conflict and the role of the Basque and Catalan languages and cultures.
The panel will include a literature and cultural expert (Professor Pere Joan Tous, Universität Konstanz), a linguist (Professor Johannes Kabatek, University of Zurich) and a political scientist (Professor Christina Zuber, Universität Konstanz).
