The Le Rocher de Palmer cultural centre in Bordeaux will open its doors again to Basque art and culture in autumn. This year, an exhibition by photographer Patxi Laskarai will be held in November, as well as two Basque dance performances by Bilaka and So.K. on the 16th.

The photographer Patxi Laskarai, native of Lecumberry (Lower Navarre), gathers pictures of Basque landscapes in the exhibition Gure Bazterrak (Paysage). Although there are no living things in his work, his photographs (which use movement and light) are very much alive. The exhibition will be on show from November 8th to 29th in the cultural centre’s Galeries de Verre, with an opening ceremony on November 16th. Admission is free to the general public.

Additionally, the Basque dance companies Bilaka and So.K. will each perform on November 16th at 8 p.m. in Rocher hall 650, as part of the show Danses Basques – Nouvelles Générations. Five dancers and a percussionist from Bilaka will perform Soka, a show that examines and transforms the popular Basque dance soka-dantza (rope dance). The company So.K. will mix Basque and contemporary dances in Hatsa (Breath), featuring twelve dancers and five musicians. Admission is free of charge, but reservations must be booked online.

These cultural activities are part of the Aquitaine.eus programme, promoted by the Etxepare Basque Institute, the Basque Cultural Institute (EKE) and the Príncipe de Viana Institute of Navarre. The aim of this programme is to promote relations and collective work among cultural artists and promoters from Euskadi, Navarra and Nouvelle Aquitaine.
