An exhibition of the work of the Basque painter Menchu Gal opens in Rome

On October 22 an exhibition that gathers works of the Basque painter Menchu Gal will open in Rome, and it will be displayed until November 22. The exhibition has been organized with the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute, and Aizpea Goenaga, director of the Institute, will attend the inauguration.

The retrospective exhibition of 46 works "Menchu Gal: A free spirit" will be displayed at the Cervantes Institute of  Rome, in the Hall of Piazza Navona, 91. The press conference to present it, is scheduled in the morning (12:00), while the opening will take place on the same day, October 22, at 18:00.

The program will be completed with a round table to be held on November 18 at 18:00 in the exhibition hall of Piaza Navona 91 with the participation of Miguel Zugaza and Francisco Blanco Serraller (director and former director of the Prado Museum of Madrid) and coordinated by Joxe Joan Gonzalez Txabarri (secretary of the Menchu Gal Foundation), which will bring to Rome the characteristics and values of the paintings of Menchu Gal.

The exhibition will gather 46 works of Menchu Gal Foundation and private collections. The painting career of the artist will be reviewed, from her early expressionist works, and emphasizing the production of her "dark period", in which the movements of abstraction and cubism are specially represented.

The exhibition has been organized by the Cervantes Institute in Rome, sponsored by the Kutxa Foundation and with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, the Basque Government, the City of Irun and the Etxepare Basque Institute.
