Anthology of Oral Basque Literature: summarizing the infinite

The Etxepare Basque Institute has released the Anthology of Oral Basque Literature, written by Xabier Paya. The book studies Basque oral literature in a panoramic and multidisciplinary way. The author has taken eight genres as axes, or sections, for this anthology: bertsolaritza (improvised verses), couplets (ancient, dance, and couplets in the rounds), the lyric-epic (popular lyric, fables, stores, legends...), popular theatre (pastoral, masquerade and burlesque), the didactic genre (children´s games, lullabies and warnings) , the quotidian genre (jokes, proverbs, sayings and replies), the ritual genre and the applied genre (sermons). It is the third title of the Basque Anthologies Series and it is has been published in a trilingual edition (Basque language, Spanish, English).
