The internationally renowned Bologna Children’s Book Fair will run from 6 to 9 March in Bologna, Italy, and both Euskal Editoreak and Euskal Irudigileak will be there.

The Italian book fair has been held every year since its creation in 1963. For 59 years the event has been a benchmark in children´s literature, with 1,400 exhibitors and around 30,000 visitors each year. It is the meeting place for professionals dedicated to the creation and publication of children´s literature. Above all, it is a place to buy and sell authors´ rights.

Euskal Editoreen Elkartea (Association of Basque Publishers), together with other agencies in the industry, the Association of Basque Publishers and Euskal Irudigileak (Association of Basque illustrators), will be in Bologna under the ‘Basque. Books.’ umbrella thanks to a collaboration between the Basque Government´s Department of Culture and the Etxepare Basque Institute. Basque. Books. is the brand name behind the internationalization of Basque literature and publishing.

Basque books will once again feature prominently at the fair. A total of thirteen publishers have registered to display their work on a stand at the fair: A fin de cuentos, Alberdania, Bonito editorial, Ediciones Modernas El Embudo, Elkar, Erein, Fulgencio Pimentel, Ibaizabal, Ikaselkar, Ttarttalo, Txalaparta, Xarpa Books and Xibarit.

Euskal Editoreak will have a visible presence at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair at the Basque. Books. stand. The association will also take part in different activities as part of the programme, such as the sale of books and comics by Basque illustrators in the Comics Corner section. The catalogue of available rights for Basque books will also be distributed.

Euskal Irudigileak will coordinate various activities in the Illustrators Survival Corner section as part of the fair’s official professional programme. Basque illustrators will have the opportunity to take part in portfolio reviews, masterclasses and in the prestigious Mostra degli illustratori. The illustrators selected for these activities or exhibitions are Higinia Garay, Josune Urrutia, Idoia Iribertegui, Maite Rosende and Elisabeth Pérez Fernández.

The International professional illustration fair IRUDIKA will be in charge of the PATXANGA fest at the Museum of Modern Art of Bologna, better known as MAMbo, in the centre of Bolonia, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Euskal Irudigileak.
