The international fair of classical and contemporary music professionals, Classical:NEXT, will celebrate its 8th edition this year. The event will take place from May 15th to 18th in Rotterdam (the Netherlands), and the Basque band Trío Zukan will be part of it.

Every year the Classical:NEXT fair brings together classical and contemporary musicians, area professionals and institutions. The programme is divided into four sections: a showcase festival, conference sessions, project pitches and an exposition area. The topics to be discussed at this year’s edition are the transmission of classical music, the opportunities offered by new technologies for the creative process, and the challenges and advantages of social media.

Trio Zukan is a contemporary chamber music project. This Basque band will offer a showcase at the Eduard Flipse Zaal concert hall on May 17th, together with other artists. The Trio will present their latest album Soinuzko Begiradak. Toma 1 (Sound glances. Take 1), featuring accordion, percussion and txistu (Basque traditional wind instrument). But Trio Zukan will not be the only Basque representative at the fair: Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa will be at the fair’s expo area, at the Basque Music stand, where they will offer further information about 40 other Basque classical and contemporary music orchestras, choirs, bands and musicians.

Basque music is guaranteed at the Classical:NEXT fair each year thanks to the Basque Music Initiative. This initiative is promoted jointly by the Etxepare Basque Institute, Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa and the Euskadiko Soinuak programme of the Culture Department of the Basque Government.
