Professor and researcher Oihana Leonet, from the University of the Basque Country (EHU), will be the guest professor at the Bernardo Atxaga Chair, promoted by Etxepare Basque Institute at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY). From 5 to 9 October, she will deliver a series of seminars on contemporary multilingualism from sociolinguistic and educational perspectives.
The programme will take the Basque context as a starting point to reflect on issues such as identity, inequality and linguistic justice, placing it in dialogue with Latin American realities. It will also address the role of new speakers, linguistic repertoires, linguistic landscapes and the role of education in multilingual contexts shaped by migration.

Oihana Leonet
Oihana Leonet is Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of the Basque Country (EHU) and Principal Investigator of the Donostia Research Group on Education and Multilingualism (DREAM). Her research focuses on language teaching and learning in multilingual contexts, with particular attention to multilingual pedagogical approaches and minoritised languages.

The Bernardo Atxaga Chair was inaugurated in 2011 at the CUNY Graduate Center and promotes research and study on the Basque language, literature and culture through academic programmes led by experts.
