Lens | Oignies
The street theatre group Deabru Beltzak continues with its show ‘Su Talka’, after its premiere on 7 June in Brittany. This tour is part of the ‘Ça colle au basque’ project, aimed at promoting Basque language and culture in the French-speaking world.
Since then, the group has embarked on a tour of France, performing Basque theatre productions in various locations across the country. Their next stop is at Festival de la Sainte Barbe, from December 5th to 6th, at Lens and Oignies, respectively.
As for this double date in December, the show in Lens will start at 9:00 p.m., while the performance scheduled in Oignies will begin at 8:00 p.m. The company will fill the streets with a festive atmosphere through its spectacular fire theatre and the use of powerful sound instruments.
Festival de la Sainte Barbe
The Festival de la Sainte Barbe is a celebration held every year around December 4 in the mining region of Lens–Liévin, in northern France, in honour of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, firefighters, explosives experts, and all those who work with fire and explosives. The festival includes pyrotechnic shows, fire installations, parades, and artistic performances at symbolic sites of the region’s mining history. Highlights include processions featuring the statue of Saint Barbara, musical performances, climbs up the terrils (man-made mountains of mining waste), and popular fairs. Numerous artists, residents, and visitors come together in a festive and warm atmosphere.
