The EUNIC Brussels Film Festival, to be held from October 6 to 16, 2025, will present a selection of European film productions with a distinctive identity. In this first edition, two films made in the Basque Country will be included in the programme: Tasio and Bizkarsoro.

‘Tasio’ (Montxo Armendáriz, 1984) will open the festival on October 6 with a special screening. Recently restored in 4K, the film tells the story of a boy growing up among the mountains and charcoal kilns, and is considered a landmark work of Basque cinema.

‘Bizkarsoro’, directed by Josu Martínez (2024), will be screened on October 16 in its original version with English subtitles. Based on five true stories set between 1914 and 1982, the film takes place in an imaginary village that embodies the struggle for memory, language, and identity. The festival’s closing event will feature the participation of the director himself, Josu Martínez.

The inclusion of these two Basque films strengthens the international presence of Basque cinema and aligns with the mission of the Etxepare Basque Institute to promote Basque culture beyond its borders.
