Exams to certify the level of Basque in Madrid, Barcelona and Buenos Aires
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
Part of the Etxepare Basque Institute’s efforts to promote the Basque language include organising exams to certify the level of language competence and command in colaboration with HABE. The Etxepare Basque Institute organises tests outside the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country to accredit the language level of Basque for students at Basque centers. Exams are held every year in Madrid and Barcelona, and periodically in Argentina, as is the case this year.
Students in Buenos Aires, Madrid and Barcelona sat the B1, B2, C1 and C2 level Basque language exams for 2021-2022 as part of the Euskara Munduan programme.
A total of 74 students sat the first round of exams, 24 of whom passed; in Barcelona, 5 out of 15 passed the exams; in Madrid, 12 out of 39, and in Buenos Aires, 7 out of 20. In the second round, 43 people sat the exams, 18 in Barcelona and 25 in Madrid. A total of 13 passed, 7 in Barcelona and 6 in Madrid.
Nine students received the B1 level certificate, 13 qualified for the B2 level certificate, 14 for the C1 certificate, and another two were certified at the C2 level.
The Etxepare Basque Institute´s Euskara Munduan programme aims to raise the level of Basque language proficiency among Basque communities around the world. It promotes training for Basque language teachers and provides aid and resources for Basque instruction at Basque centres, which are often responsible for the difficult taks of training their own teaching staff.
