Maitane Serralde, Maite Guevara and Cielo rasO will perform at Festival dos Canais, a multidisciplinary festival that takes place in Aveiro, Portugal, from 17 to 21 July. The event is held along the canals of the Aveiro estuary, with numerous performances ranging from music to theatre, dance, circus and visual arts.

The festival invites artists and the public to discover and explore the city´s spaces, where streets, plazas and gardens are transformed into stages.

Alongside the performances by the aforementioned artists, the festival will also feature gatherings between Basque and Portuguese companies and programmers to foster synergies and potential collaborations.

Cielo rasO

Founded by Igor Calonge in 2010, Cielo rasO combines tradition and modernity in dance. Its distinct style, characterised by the power and poeticism of the body, has garnered acclaim both nationally and internationally, with performances in France, Italy, Brazil and Argentina.

At Festival dos Canais, Cielo rasO will perform ´Reset´. This solo piece reflects the relentless quest for personal identity. The performer´s breath narrates the movement, unveiling a moment that encapsulates the essence of the spirit. Visible in a recyclable plastic bag, each exhalation gathers the desire to survive, to start again, to see, to live and to dance. A journey in connection with the body, a bellows that encourages movement.

Maitane Serralde

Performer and creator Maitane Serralde draws inspiration from circus arts and martial arts. In contemporary dance and improvisation, she has discovered a unique avenue for expression and creativity. Here, she skilfully merges the delicate with the dynamic, and strength with vulnerability. Interested in developing her own language, she investigates the dynamics of suspended elements and bodies, integrating vertical and suspended dance with the fluid motion of contemporary dance.

The Festival dos Canais will host the premiere of ´Madre Perla´. It is not only a "sempervivum succulent" that thrives in arid environments but also a duet embodying an encounter that dances in a landscape that perplexes, provokes, and unveils an urgency, sparking a renewed awareness.

Maite Guevara

Maite Guevara has excelled in the world of circus and physical theatre since 2006. Trained in Latin America and Europe, she has created and starred in acclaimed one-woman shows including ´Soltarlo al Aire´ and ´NOW!´, winning awards and participating in international festivals.

In Aveiro, she will be showcasing a new performance titled ´Susto´. Four comedians work in an almost deserted castle of terror. The figures haven´t been adding up for a long time and their livelihood hangs in the balance. They need the show to work, hoping to evoke fear in the audience, but there’s a problem: they are the ones who are the most afraid.
