Fira Tàrrega 2026: Basque. Performing Arts.

This year from 10 to 13 September the Etxepare Basque Institute joins forces once again with Fira de Teatre al Carrer de Tàrrega to bring the Basque theatre and street arts companies Lasala, Ertza, Marie de Jongh and Koilara Teatro to the Catalan performing arts fair. 

LASALA, ‘Burnt’

Faced with an increasingly demanding social mirror, the only possible strategy seems to be to shine brighter every night. The price of such relentless consumption, however, is the same one moths pay for flying too close to the light: the risk of going up in flames in a spontaneous burnout.

ERTZA, ‘Un’we’

A contemporary dance piece inspired by new forms of labour exploitation, extreme individualism and dependence on social media. Its two protagonists feel that, despite the passing of the centuries, their feet remain chained: the harder they pedal, the more money they can send to their families on the other side of the world. Trapped in a wheel with no way out, they push themselves to exhaustion in their struggle to survive.

MARIE DE JONGH, ‘Bo familia’

An itinerant street theatre production exploring tyranny, abuse of power and servitude. Mr. Bueno is a brazen, capricious and amusing tourist, unaccustomed to taking no for an answer. Accompanied by servants carrying his luggage and revelling in his power, he takes over every space and expects everyone to be at his service. Through naïve comedy, the piece invites audiences to reflect on touristification and the tourist within us all.

KOILARA TEATRO, ‘La llegada’

A street theatre production combining clowning, physical theatre and verbal agility. An extraterrestrial spacecraft is about to arrive on Earth, and two reporters from Koilara Irratia will broadcast the historic event live. Through a story populated by unusual characters, absurd situations and mystery, ‘La llegada’ creates an imaginary universe that turns the audience into witnesses to an extraordinary encounter.

Basque. Performing Arts.

The festival will also host a Basque. Performing Arts. stand. A meeting of performing arts professionals organised by the Basque Government´s Department of Culture, the Etxepare Basque Institute and Artekale will be held on 12 September.
