First Meeting of Basque Teachers in Germany

The Etxepare Basque Institute has four university chairs in Germany (Universität Konstanz, Universität Leipzig, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main and Freie Universität Berlin). The Basque language can also be learned at the Euskal Etxea Basque Centre in Berlin and the Volkshochschule. The ´I. Treffen der Baskisch-Lektor:innen und Lehrer:innen im deutschsprachigen Raum´ or ´First meeting of Basque lecturers and language assistants from the Etxepare Basque Institute and the network of euskal etxea Basque centres in Germany will be a meeting place for teachers working in this German-speaking context. The participants will have a chance to discuss the progress made so far and define the challenges for the future. The gathering will take place on May 6th and 7th.

Two round table discussions will feature speakers and experts with extensive experience in Basque language teaching. On 6 May, at 11:30 a.m., there will be a talk on ´Minority languages and cultures at German universities´ at the Freie Universität Berlin.

On Saturday, 7 May, at 11:30 a.m., Petra Elser, Lourdes Izagirre, Unai Lauzirika and Jonan Lekuek will take part in a round table discussion at the Mehringhoff Theatre on ´Basque language teaching in the German-speaking context´.
