In the coming months the project ‘Crossing Voices’ will bring together of contemporary Basque and Flemish music for months. Akartia Trio has initiated a collaborative project involving multiple Basque and Flemish composers. Through this partnership, they have created a series of concerts featuring a programme that includes two debut performances: one by Flemish composer Ward De Vleeschhouwer, and another by Basque composer Mikel Chamizo. De Vleeschhouwer will also give a soundpainting workshop and a talk.

Akartia Trio
Akartia Trio is a group of musicians made up of Naiara de la Puente, Iñigo Setuain and Stefanie Knorr. For the first time, they blend classical accordion, saxophone, and vocals in this innovative musical ensemble. Akartia Trio draws on its members’ experience in chamber music. Also, the absence of existing compositions has inspired them to develop their own repertoire and contribute to the realm of contemporary music.

Ward De Vleeschhouwer
Belgian composer and pianist Ward De Vleeschhouwer has a broad vision of music, ranging from contemporary classical music to popular music and from crossover to pure rock. Ward De Vleeschhouwer studied music at the Conservatory of Ghent-Belgium. Throughout his career he has performed at several major international festivals. Aside from his solo performances, Ward is is a member of the ensemble Thelema Trio.
