‘Rituals for the Living Present’ is a bilateral artist-in-residence programme promoted by MORPHO (Antwerp) and Tabakalera (San Sebastián) that explores how rituals are understood in the modern era, looking at their roles as artistic expressions and vehicles for building communities. The programme invites artists to reflect on the survival of rituals, their role in different societies and how they can be reinvented today. Through an open call, the two organisations each select an artist from the Basque Country and from Flanders for a three-month residency in 2023.
The Basque artist Gala Knörr was selected for her project ´Passion Social Club´. Knörr will carry out her artist residency at MORPHO between August and September 2023.
