GAUR (sic) at PINTA LONDON!
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
The exhibition GAUR (sic), promoted by the Etxepare Basque Institute and curated by Nekane Aramburu, has been shown in London (UK) from 12 to 15 July, in the context of the relevant PINTA London fair (Earl´2 Court Exhibition Centre ). The selection focuses on eight Basque creative proposals, by the artists Ms. Polaroiska (Alaitz Ibarretxe Arenzana and Mary), Colombina´s (Larraitz Sandra Torres and Cuesta), Aitor Lajarin, Zuhar Iruretagoiena, Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum, Saioa Olmo, Juan Aizpitarte and Ixone Sadaba. Through GAUR (sic), we understand that nowadays there are three issues evidenced in contemporary art practices: the strength of the work done by women and the primacy of them, the intensity of the collective or collaborative projects and the establishment of interdisciplinarity.
GAUR (sic) attracted a large audience, who wanted to see the works and also talk to Aizpea Goenaga, director of Etxepare Basque Institute; Nekane Aramburu, exhibition curator and the artist Ixone Sadaba. Amongst the relevant visitors were Alejandro Zaia, director of PINTA LONDON, Carlos Urroz, director of ARCO fair in Madrid, José Roca, Associate Curator of the Tate Modern, or international curators like Cecile Bourne and Toni Ferrer. The press didn’t miss the event either and the exhibition was visited by several international journalists, such as Natascha Hall or Silvia Demetilla. So did some artists from around the world, and also Basque artists living in London Alain Urrutia and Ione Saizar. Urrutia is represented by the gallery Casado Santa Pau, which had its own stand at the fair; its director Damián Casado, was there, too. Maria Ugarte, head of the Basque Window section of London Spanish Film Festival, supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute didn’t miss the video-works either, and nor did Len Zabala, the owner of East West Marketing Group of New York.
