Great interest in Basque Culture at the Koldo Mitxelena Chair of Chicago

The students of the Chair Koldo Mitxelena finished the classes on Thursday at the University of Chicago. For nearly two months,and leaded by Dr. Mari Jose Olaziregi, they have deepen in the program on contemporary Basque fiction and have shown great interest in Basque culture.

In addition, on April 28 they had the opportunity to enjoy the Basque film Loreak, accompanied by the reader of Basque language and Culture of the university, Diana Palenzuela. After the screening, they took part in a video- chat with director Jose Mari Goenaga.

The students were very interested in the film, and had a lot of questions for Goenaga: the reason of the title, the origin of the film, the women’s conflicts of and the importance of the flowers, the structure of the film ...

Goenaga spoke about his experience in promoting Loreak in America, as it has been nominated to compete in the 2015 Oscar Awards. In addition, he also mentioned the new project where he is participating: Andiya.
