Harkaitz Cano on literature, art and catharsis in the USA
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
Harkaitz Cano just completed the recent literary tour that has taken him to the US. The Basque writer’s schedule, whose journey was organized by the Etxepare Basque Institute, has been pretty tight. The tour began on 19 and 20 November with visits to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the University of Chicago, where he had the opportunity to meet the students and various experts in literature. He also offered –in both universities- the conference "Literature, Art and catharsis", creating a great expectation.
On the 23th, the writer attended the relevant fair Miami Book Fair International, the US largest literary event, organized by The Center for Literature and Theater of the Miami Dade College, the university with the largest number of students in the country. This was the first time the Etxepare Basque Institute was participating in the fair, with the goal of guaranteeing the presence of the Basque literature at the event. The participation covered all expectations: the writer first participated in the roundtable "Courses of the Basque literature" along with Mari Jose Olaziregi, director for the Promotion and Dissemination of the Basque language at the Etxepare Institute, and the diplomatic Pablo Barrios.
In addition, Harkaitz Cano was invited to participate in one of the closing events of the fair program, in which he offered a reading of some texts written by himself, together with the renowned writers Daina Chaviano, Anjanette Delgado, Jordi Doce, Jorge Galán, Chely Lima, Guillermo Martínez, Carlos Pintado, Alberto Ruy Sánchez, Ana María Shua, Pablo Simonetti and Julio Trujillo.
