Katixa Agirre represents the Basque literature in Thessaloniki

In a project promoted by the Etxepare Basque Institute, the Basque writer Katixa Agirre attended the Thessaloniki Book Fair (Greece) on behalf of the Basque literature.

On May 15 Agirre gave the lecture on Basque literature "Literature in the Basque language" with Juanjo Corrales, Director of the Kilkis Festival, and the Greek literary critic Tina Mandilara. The writer first described the peculiarities of the Basque language and then she detailed the history of literature in Basque languag  and explained the current situation. the audience followed her talk with great interest and asked numerous questions at the end of the lecture.


That same day, also in the program of the fair, Katixa Agirre participated in the round table on literature and universality entitled "Language borders and universality idea," along with the authors Madeleine Thien (Canada), Alon Hilu (Israel) Ivan Srsen (Croatia) Joseph Kertes (Canada), Angela Dimitrakaki (Greece) and Dimitris Sotakis (Greece).

The fair of Thessaloniki is a very relevant international meeting point for hundreds of writers, translators, publishers, literary agencies, journalists and institutions. Katixa Agirre also had the opportunity to hold meetings with various promoters, such as the directors of the Greek  publishing house Erkremes or Croatian publishers. The channel EPT3 of the Greek public radio-televison also paid attention to the Basque author and asked for an interview with her.
