Seven short films in Kimuak’s 2023 catalogue

After considering 60 films submitted to the 26th edition of Kimuak, the jury selected seven short films to be included in the Kimuak 2023 catalogue.
The Kimuak programme is promoted by the the Etxepare Basque Institute and Zineuskadi. As of today, the seven Basque short films selected will be sent to the world’s leading film festivals and audiovisual initiatives.
The members of this year´s selection committee included Simon Blondeau (Assistant director and cultural mediator at Cinéma L´Atalante in Bayonne, head of Basque film distribution at Gabarra Films and organiser of the Rencontres sur les Docks festival); Ana Herrera (Head of strategic audiovisual and digital projects, Department of Culture, Government of Navarre); Txaro Landa (President of the Bilbao FAS Film Club; Jaime Manrique (Founder and director of the Bogota-Bogoshorts Short Film Festival and Black Velvet Lab); and Alberto Valverde (Coordinator, D´A Film Lab in Barcelona and programmer for CinemaAttic Edinburgh).
This new Kimuak catalogue includes animated and fiction shorts. In terms of languages, one of the films is exclusively in Basque, while another is a combination of Basque and French. The remaining films are in Spanish, with two of them also incorporating Hindi and Bengali. In this edition, three of the seven films in the catalogue are directed and produced by women.
The seven short films selected are:
- ‘La mujer ilustrada’ (Isabel Herguera’).
- ‘Sorbeltza’ (Iban del Campo).
- ‘Prioridades’ (Tamara Lucarini Cortés).
- ‘El aprendiz’ (Raúl Campos).
- ‘El rey de la semana’ (David Pérez Sañudo).
- ‘Deadly Draw (Sorteo mortal)’ (Nitya Lopez Saitua).
- ‘Ximinoa’ (Itziar Leemans).
