La Basu and EH Sona, Basque Music headliners at MMVV

Basque Music, the platform aimed at raising the international profile of Basque music, will be back at this year’s Mercat de Música Viva which takes place in Vic (Catalonia, Spain) from September 12 to 16. As in previous editions, Basque Music will take advantage of this music industry event to hold the official presentation of the Euskal Herria Sona festival featuring a showcase concert by La Basu.

As in previous editions, Basque Music will take advantage of this music industry event to hold the official presentation of the Euskal Herria Sona festival featuring a showcase concert by La Basu.
Representatives from the Barcelona Euskal Etxea – the EH Sona festival organizers – will be at the launch which takes place on Friday, September 14 at 1.30 pm in Aula MV. Although the definitive line-up for the festival – which is due to take place in Barcelona this autumn – has yet to be announced, Zizel and Liher have already confirmed they will be performing.
The industry professionals who attend the launch will be able to hear some of Elena Caballero’s work. Better known as La Basu, the artist be performing in a showcase sponsored by Basque Music. With a career spanning over 20 years, she is the most important female rapper in the Basque Country. On this occasion, La Basu be showcasing some of the songs from her latest album, Ni naiz izotz erregina, which was released in 2017. It is the first rap album recorded entirely in the Basque language by a female solo artist who mixes rap with traditional impro verse, dancehall and swing.
However, La Basu won’t be the only Basque music performer at this year’s Mercat de Musica Viva, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. On Thursday, September 13, Kepa Junkera will be showcasing his project Ath-Thurda e Cantares de Evora at the Carpa Negra (13.00 h.). The gig is reserved for professionals only. Korrontzi will be performing in the same venue on Friday, September 14, at 10.15 pm.
