Loreak, first Basque-speaking movie nominated for Best Film at the Goya Awards!

As the Spanish Film Academy announced this Wednesday, the Basque feature film Loreak has been nominated to the Goya Award for Best Film, together with El niño, La isla mínima, Magical Girl and Relatos Salvajes. The movie directed by Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga thus becomes the first film shot in Basque language which is honored with a nomination for this award. The soundtrack of Loreak, composed by Pascal Gaigne, has also been nominated, in this case for Best Original Music.
But there are more Basque names on the list of selected works: Dixie eta matxinada zonbia, created by Ricardo Ramón and Beñat Beitia , has been nominated for Best Animated Film. Ocho apellidos vascos has garnered five nominations, which include that of Karra Elejalde –candidate to Best Supporting Actor- and another one for Fernándo Velázquez –Best Original Song-. El último adiós de Bette Davis, co-written by Juan Zavala, can get the Goya for Best Documentary Film. Finally, the short "Loco con ballesta" by Kepa Sojo has been nominated for Best Fiction Short Film and "Sangre de unicornio" by Alberto Vázquez for Best Animated Short Film.
