Lutxo Egia, Laura Mintegi and Urtzi Urrutikoetxea are taking part in the PEN International Congress

The representatives of Euskal PEN Kluba 2016 Lutxo Egia, Laura Mintegi and Urtzi Urrutikoetxea have attended the International PEN Congress organized in Ourense and Santiago de Compostela, where they have gathered more than 200 writers from all over the world from 26 to 30 September. In Santiago several authors will be honored, among others, Mariasun Landa. The first session started on Monday 26th, where the mayor of Ourense welcomed the participants after the opening ceremony at the Teatro Principal.

For five days, the participants will be discussing topics such as peace, the repression on writers in different countries or freedom of expression.

The PEN International Congress is one of the most relevant meetings of world writers. PEN is the largest association of writers in the world, with about 140 groups and 20,000 writers, journalists, bloggers, musicians and professionals speak. After the two previous ones, created in 1950 and in the 80s, the current group Basque PEN was established in 2004, and bearing twelve years leading the world of Basque culture and bringing our experience and contacts around the world.
