On 16 September, an exhibition by Basque artist Estibalitz Sábada Murgía opened its doors at MUNTREF, the Contemporary Art Center, located in the legendary Hotel de Inmigrantes in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A featured exhibition of the Feria de Arte Bienal Sur, ´acciones B))))’ will run until October 28th. This exhibition is the outcome of the collaboration agreement between the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Bitamine Faktoria association, created to raise the international profile of Basque artists.
The EAS-EZE Bitamine Faktoria Program of Contemporary Basque Art aims to internationalize the work of Basque artists. Together with local organisations in Buenos Aires, a calendar of activities is drawn up in which invited artists and local artists take part in events (round tables, debates, workshops, collective meetings...). at various venues, including museums, cultural spaces and galleries.
The project ‘Acciones B’ claims that women have historically been limited to the home. Sábada´s goal is to bring to light the often unnoticed contributions of women in this domain.
With this work, Sábada observes, questions and works on the female relationship with the domestic sphere. As in previous projects, Sábada relies on language, writing, action/performance and photography in drawing, sound and video. These techniques, when combined, result in a methodology that aims to enrich the vast array of images. Through action, it aims to reverse the confinement that women suffer, taking the struggle out of the kitchen and the bedroom and into the streets. Helga Massetani Piemonte is the exhibition curator.
Etxepare Basque Institute and the programme
In 2015, the collaboration agreement between the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Bitamine Faktoria association was signed. The aim of this agreement is to establish a collaboration framework between the Etxepare Basque Institute and Bitamine Kultur Elkartea to promote the presence of Basque artists in the Programme for the Internationalisation of Basque Contemporary Art, EAS-EZE, carried out through the Bitamine Faktoria project.
The program supports artistic research and production by fostering the advancement of creators and facilitating the global mobility of Basque artists. The selected person will develop his/her project in the Basque Country and then present it in Buenos Aires.
