As part of the EAS-EZE 2025 programme, Nagore Legarreta Alcelay will present her work ´El río no es un lugar´ (The river is not a place) at MUNTREF, the Centre for Contemporary Art in Buenos Aires, Argentina, between 9 August and 7 September. This work suggests focusing our attention on the river and letting it reflect back on our contemporary society. It also establishes a dialogue with the rivers that were once buried underground, giving light to landscapes hidden within the city of Buenos Aires itself.

For Nagore, this work evokes her childhood. She lives in the neighbourhood of El Portu (The Port), so called because many years ago the river Urumea, which runs through her hometown of Hernani, was navigable. Her family has always been closely linked to the river, and these images come to her mind when she thinks of her home and her roots.

For this project, Nagore used tin-can cameras placed in the river, leaving a small hole just a few centimeters below the water´s surface through which the light passes."
