The presentation of the new ‘Basque. Art.’ catalogue will take place on Thursday 23rd February at ARCO, Spain’s International Contemporary Art Fair. Since its foundation ARCO has been a leading platform for the contemporary art market.
The Basque. Art. catalogue is a collection of publications funded by the Basque Government’s Department of Visual and Plastic Arts.
The catalogue will be presented at a round table discussion with Irene Larraza Aizpurua (Director of the Etxepare Basque Institute) and Andoni Iturbe (Deputy Minister of Culture of the Basque Government). Curator and art critic Ángel Calvo Ulloa will serve as the moderator. At the round table, Irene Larraza will present the strategy, specific actions and projects that the Etxepare Basque Institute has in place for the promotion and dissemination of Basque art, such as the programmes and grants that the Institute allocates to Basque creators and artists or the Zabal programme, an international programme designed to host international curators in the Basque Country.
Basque. Art. is a project created by the Etxepare Basque Institute in partnership with the Basque Government designed to promote and disseminate the work of Basque artists and creators.
This catalogue is a compilation of the publications funded in 2021 and 2022 by the Department of Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government in the call for grant proposals for the promotion and development of activities in Plastic and Visual Arts.
This catalogue is a tool that aims to highlight the value of artistic creation and talent in the Basque Country, where diverse practices and artistic trajectories coexist to create a rich and varied mosaic. In short, a contemporary kaleidoscope of the most current publications in art.
Basque. Art will have a stand at Artslibris (international artists’ and contemporary publishing book fair) where the following works in the catalogue will be available: ‘La Isla de los Faisanes. Modos de contar la historia’ (Iraitz Agirre and Iván Gomez, 2021) , ‘ELLAS. Un atlas de memorias.’ (Aingoa Resano, 2021), ‘Regla’ (Salim Malla and Tania Blanco, 2021), ‘MONUMENTO X visual essay’ (Juan Pablo Ordúñez / MawatreS, 2021), ‘Ignora’ (Ignacio Córdoba and Ainara LeGardon, 2021), and ‘Neeev (No es exótico, es vital)’ (Begoña Zubero, 2022), among others. The consonni publishing house and cultural space in Bilbao has been commissioned to edit and publish the catalogue.
