The traveling fair WOMEX, one of the most important ones of the sector, turns 20 this year an it has stopped in Santiago de Compostela from 22 to 26 October. Once again, the Basque music has attended the event with the participation of the Etxepare Basque Institute.
In the opening ceremony, the bagpiper Xosé Manuel Budiño led a party inspired in the Camino de Santiago - "Compostela, the roots-the way" – and the grout Oreka TX performed there. Tha Basque groups Korrontzi and DJ Makala also offered concerts during the fair.
Basque companies have worked in the stand of Euskadiko Soinuak. Euskadiko Soinuak is a program launched by the Department of Education, Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government, in partnership with several professional music industries, and with the participation of Etxepare Basque Institute.
WOMEX is a professional event for the field of world music, which includes a trade show, dozens of showcases and concerts, and this year to about 2,500 delegates and 1,260 companies from over 90 countries, among which there were 800 programmers, over 500 labels, publishers and distributors, as well as more than 300 journalists. In addition, the meeting also hosted the DJ WOMEX Summit, film screenings and conferences and consulting by 80 specialists from over 25 countries.
