Succesful concert of the musicians Ruper Ordorika and Ben Monder in New York, within the program of the Bernardo Atxaga Chair

The Basque songwriter Ruper Ordorika and the renowned guitar player Ben Monder performed a concert at the Martin Segal Theatre of CUNY (City University of New York) yesterday, October 6 at 6 pm. This concert has been organized by the  Etxepare Basque Institute.

The event gathered more than 40 people looking forward to see both artists in life. The started the concer with a song by Bernardo Atxaga, and also played "Gure Bazterrak" by Mikel Laboa. In fact, these two Basque artists have given the names to the two chairs that have organized the concert: In has been carried out within the CUNY Bernardo Atxaga Chair 2014 program, in collaboration with the UPV-EHU Mikel Laboa Chair.

Ben Monder, famous jazz guitarist and composer, has performed with a variety of artists. He has worked together with Ruper Ordorika since 1995, especially in studio. Now we have the chance to enjoy a performance together in New York.

The concert has been organized within the Bernardo Atxaga Chair; the Chair includes, apart from the academic course, one more concert: this Friday, October 10, the Basque piano-player Josu Okiñena will offer a conference-concert about Aita Donostia.

On the other hand, the academic course, designed at the Cultural Studies` proposal, that will be entitled “De la desmemoria al pasado omnipresente en la narrativa vasca actual” ("From oblivion to omnipresent past in the current Basque narrative"), aims to analyze the role that the remembrance of the past has played in the Basque literature over the past four decades and will be taught by Mari Jose Olaziregi and Nerea Arruti.
