Spotlight on generational change and new areas of expansion in the cultural sector: UPV summer course 2023
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
As part of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) 2023 summer programme, a course on generational change and new areas of expansion will explore future challenges in learning, innovation and cultural management (‘El relevo generacional y las nuevas áreas de expansión del sector. Los retos para el futuro del aprendizaje, la innovación y la gestión cultural’). The course will be held on 22 June in Bilbao and aims to analyse the state of the profession. The course is supported in part by the Etxepare Basque Institute.
The challenges of cultural management professionals today are twofold: adapting to the experience of the past and breaking new ground in an ever-changing landscape. The new generations must not only recognise the experience and knowledge of previous generations but embrace innovation and change to effectively engage with a hybrid and evolving audience. The course aims to provide insights into creating the most effective cultural mediation strategies and programmes to deal with this situation.
The course will feature several cultural management professionals who will participate as guest speakers. Among them are Roberto Gómez de la Iglesia, expert in creative economy and cultural mediator; Pilar López, director of Teatro Paraíso and Alex Aginagalde López, cultural technician at the Etxepare Basque Institute.
At 11:30, Aginagalde will give a lecture entitled ‘Euskal kulturaren nazioartekotzea mundu digitalean: aukerak eta erronkak’ (‘The internationalisation of Basque culture in the digital world: opportunities and challenges’). He will talk about the objectives and lines of work of the Etxepare Basque Institute, the changes introduced by the digital revolution, and the challenges for the internationalisation of Basque culture and creation.
The course will end with a round table discussion on education in cultural management with a focus on innovation and future challenges.
