Willing to listen to Toti Martinez de Lezea in Argentina
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
The Basque writer Toti Martinez de Lezea had a warm welcome in her visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina. A large audience gathered to meet her on May 7 at the International Book Festival for Buenos Aires, both in the Basque stand and in her lecture: “The historic novel (Minor genre? Style? Literary tradition?)”
But Toti’s task didn’t come to an end in the Book Festival: on May 8, she offered the lecture “The Basque culture in my books” at the Congress of Argentina Library. And the following day she gave two more lectures at the National University of La Plata and the Lopez Merino library.
On May 10, she returned to Buenos Aires, in order to join the Basque collective of the city and take part in their meeting “The Basque woman (matriarchy, trade, survival, witchcraft, present)” in Euskaltzaleak, organized by the Basque House itself, with the support of the Basque Delegation. It went on for almost 3 hours and the listeners at the full venue wanted more and more! Besides, on May the 11th, she took part in the “Buenos Aires Celebrates the Basque Country”, a festival to celebrate Basque culture, history and identity.
The trip was organized thanks to the help of the Etxepare Basque Institute and the Basque Delegation in Argentina-Mercosur. In fact, the the director of the Institute, Aizpea Goenaga, joined her at the end of the program. Full programme.
