Xabi Aburruzaga has won the "Proyecto Runas" contest at the Ortigueira Festival
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
On July 18, with the opening of the Ortigueira Festival, the jury of the "Proyecto Runas" contest announced its winner: the trio led by the Basque trikitixa-player Asier Aburruzaga, an also composed by the musicians Aitor Antruego and Jose Urrejola. The final was held on Thursday.
The award has given them the chance to participate in the next edition of the festival, and a prize money. The competition is aimed at emerging groups, and although Aburruzaga reached the final four years ago, it has not been until now that he has won it.
The jury was composed by bagpiper Pepe Vaamonde, accordionist Diego Maceiras and master of bagpipe Manuel Garrido, who have reviewed factors such as the originality of repertoire, the pitch, the variety and use of rhythms, employment of typical folk resources and the connection with the audience. The Quartet Caramuxo took second place.
