2015-02-10

These days, and until February 15, the Basque film festival  Zinemaldia.Cat is being held in Barcelona. The event became a Festival last year, and this tenth edition comes full of innovations. Two sections have been presented: Fiction and Documentary, with six films each. On the other hand, it also offers a special program for children and an alternative program. The festival is organized by the Basque Center - Euskal Etxea- of Barcelona and has the support of Etxepare Basque Institute.

Basque films will compete for the "Golden Txapela" in the largest Basque cinema Festival outside our territory. The Fiction Section will include the films  Negociador, Loreak, Lasa eta Zabala, A Escondidas, Dixie and Los Tontos y los estúpido; the Documentary one, on the other hand, will show  I am Haiti, 5 Days to Dance, Echevarriatik Etxeberriara, Lantanda, Señales de la vida and Ateak zabalduz. As usual, the screenings will be joined by directors, actors...

Girona Cinemas will host the screenings, and a jury of industry professionals will announce the winners on February 15: the director Hammundi Al-Rahmoun, film critic Nuria Vidal, Aritz Lekuona of s ESCAC school, the director and producer Judith Colell and actor Marc Martinez.

This year the festival includes a section for children –Txo! - with screenings, workshops and other activities in Maldà Cinemas, where a marathon of films by Julio Medem will also be offered.

And if all this were not enough, they have also organized the AlterZinemaldia at the Basque Centre where they have scheduled different screenings such as short films of Kimuak 2014.
