Bernardo Atxaga to take part in Portugal´s FÓLIO Literary Festival

Basque writer Bernardo Atxaga will participate in the 11th edition of FÓLIO – Óbidos International Literary Festival, with the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute and Instituto Cervantes in Lisbon.
On 10 October at 4:30 p.m., Atxaga will join writer María Sánchez for a conversation entitled Estivemos aqui, um dia estivemos vivos aqui (We Were Here, Once We Were Alive Here), moderated by Portuguese writer Patrícia Portela. The event will take place at Livraria de Santiago in Óbidos, as part of the FÓLIO Mais programme.
Under the theme Para Além da Pele (Beyond the Skin), this year´s festival invites reflection on the body, memory, territory and human relationships through literature and the arts.
Bernardo Atxaga´s work in Portuguese
Several works by Bernardo Atxaga have been translated into Portuguese, including Obabakoak (Quetzal Editores, 1992), The Lone Man (O Homem Só, Dom Quixote, 1998), Memoirs of a Basque Cow (Memórias duma Vaca, Terramar, 1999) and Seven Houses in France (Sete Casas em França, Faktoria K de Livros, 2018). These publications reflect the presence of Atxaga´s literary work among Portuguese readers.
BASQUE. BOOKS.: bringing Basque literature to the world
Building on the international reach of writers such as Bernardo Atxaga, BASQUE. BOOKS. promotes Basque literature internationally by fostering connections between writers, publishers and literary agents. Developed by the Etxepare Basque Institute, the platform provides resources to support the translation and international circulation of Basque literature, including translated literary samples, information on publishing rights and translation funding opportunities.
