Barealdi Magikoa: a play in Basque language at the CDN of Madrid

2014-10-09

As a result of an agreement between the National Dramatic Center (CDN) and the Etxepare Basque Institute, the play “La calma mágica/Barealdi magikoa” by the dramaturge Alfredo Sanzol will be the second play represented in Basque language in Valle-Inclán Theatre in Madrid, after the success of the play "Soinujolearen semea" last year. This co-production of CDN and Tanttaka Teatroa opens on Friday, October 10 and will be on the bill of this important stage until November 9; the version in Euskera, - the translation has been made by the writer Harkaitz Cano- will be represented on November 1 and 2.

Alfredo Sanzol, author and director of the play, Fernando Bernués of Tanttaka Teatroa and the actors Sandra Ferrús, Mireia Gabilondo, Aitor Mazo, Iñaki Garmendia and  Aitziber Rikarte have talked to the media to present a work that, in the words of its author, is "a comedy-gift" dedicated to his father. "As time passes, dreams and reality come to have the same value between memories, and it is difficult to distinguish what really is and what we think it is," he noted. That´s the starting point for the history of Oliver, a character who, concerned about controlling his image, starts a journey with hallucinogenic moments, looking for his dignity and the meaning of life.

The author and the actors have spent months working, rehearsing and rewriting the original text of "The Magic Calm / Barealdi magikoa", a joint work with they were satisfied, and that can be enjoyed beyond the season at CRC, in a subsequent state wide tour. With this work "Sanzol goes beyond Sanzol" said Fernando Bernués about the latest work of the renowned playwright, "He reaches deeper layers"
