Womex, the world’s biggest meeting of music professionals, will be held in the city of Tampere, Finland, from October 23 to 27. The folk and world music fair will celebrate its nineteenth edition this year.
Basque Music, organized by the Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa Association with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute, will be back at the fair. This year, the Basque band Topa-K will take part in the showcase aimed to promote Basque bands and artists. Topa-K is the new project of the renowned Basque artists Agus Barandiaran (Korrontzi) and Mikel Unzurrunzaga (DJ Makala). Topa-K is the new fusion between traditional Basque music and electronic music, featuring Barandiaran on the accordion and Makala on the samplers, and dancers Izaskun and Alaitz Oraa.
In addition, just as in previous editions, Basque Music will have its own stand at Womex, where the Basque professionals taking part in the fair will be able to show their work to other professionals.
The concert by Topa-K will be at midnight on Saturday, October 26, in Tullikamari hall, as part of the programme of the offWomex section. The Topa-K project follows in the footsteps of previous Womex participants Juan Mari Beltran (2017) and Kalakan (2018).
